Safety & Insurance

At POV Travel, we know that unforgettable journeys often come with unique challenges. As well as offering incredible adventures for the intrepid traveler, some of our destinations involve equally unique risks. We take your safety very seriously. Our team regularly checks security reports and stays informed about potential issues, drawing advice from a wide range of sources, from government advisories and independent security experts to local contacts on the ground, whether that’s a tribal chief or a bus driver. All of this allows us to make your trip memorable for the right reasons.

Because we travel to some of the world’s remotest mountains, deserts, jungles, and coastlines, every trip is built on careful preparation and thorough risk assessment. Our trekking guides are among the most experienced professionals in the field. Expedition leaders on group trips carry a phone and we ensure all our local staff are properly trained and equipped.

Insurance Requirements

All guests must travel with at least basic medical and travel insurance. This isn’t just a formality, it’s essential for both legal reasons and for your own protection in remote environments where medical facilities may be limited.

We don’t sell or arrange insurance ourselves, but we strongly advise checking the details of your policy carefully before traveling.

When choosing insurance, make sure to consider:

  • Government travel warnings – Some insurers won’t cover you if your government has issued an advisory against your destination. Always check the clauses.

  • Medical & evacuation cover - Ensure your insurer can arrange emergency transport to proper care if needed.

  • Residency restrictions – Some insurers only cover residents of certain countries. Confirm your eligibility.

  • War & terrorism clauses – Most policies exclude incidents linked to war or terrorism, but will still cover accident or illness. Specialised cover can be much more expensive.

  • Kidnap/ransom/extortion (KRE) cover – High-cost coverage, usually unnecessary for most travelers.

  • Adventure activity cover – Make sure your policy includes what you’ll actually be doing: snorkeling, diving, trekking, horse riding, etc.

Flights

Since our travelers join from different countries, international flights are not included in trip prices. Many of our destinations require creative routing, sometimes with smaller or lesser-known airlines. If you’re unsure, we’ll gladly recommend the best options for your trip.

Visas

Visa requirements vary depending on the country and your nationality. We may list the visas needed on each trip page, but the responsibility for obtaining them is yours. We always recommend contacting the relevant embassy well in advance, or asking us if you need guidance.
