Itinerary

Day 1 - Kayseri to Hattusha
  • Arrival at Kayseri Airport and immediate departure toward central Anatolia
  • Scenic drive through remote plateaus and rural landscapes
  • Arrival in the Hattusha region and orientation briefing
  • Introduction to the Hittite Empire and the rise of early state societies
  • Dinner and overnight near Hattusha

Day 2 - Hattusha to Cappadocia
  • Morning guided tour of Hattusha, capital of the Hittite civilisation
  • Explore monumental city walls, royal gates, temples, and carved reliefs
  • Discussion on early empires, power structures, and unresolved historical questions
  • Afternoon drive toward Cappadocia
  • Evening at leisure
  • Dinner and overnight in Cappadocia

Day 3 - Topada Derinkuyu and Gumusler Monastery
  • Morning departure through lesser-visited regions of Anatolia
  • Visit Topada and examine ancient inscriptions
  • Continue to Derinkuyu, descending into its vast subterranean network
  • Afternoon visit to Gumusler Monastery carved directly into volcanic rock
  • Discussion on underground cities, refuge architecture, and symbolic space
  • Dinner and overnight near Gumusler

Day 4 - Gumusler to Returning to Kayseri
  • Early departure toward Kayseri
  • Scenic drive across changing landscapes
  • Short stop off for lunch depending on flight times
  • Departure from Turkey

  • Cradle of Civilisation – Walk through some of the earliest known centres of organised human society, from the Hittite capital of Hattusha to the underground city of Derinkuyu, tracing the rise of power, hierarchy, and ritual that shaped the ancient world.

  • Lovely Landscapes – Starting our day off with the dramatic, volcanic landscape around Cappadocia watching the amazing sight as hundreds of Hot Air Balloons depart.

  • Hidden Worlds and Stone Sanctuaries – Descend into vast underground cities like Derinkuyu, explore rock cut monasteries and inscriptions and see some of the most incredible rock carvings in Turkey.
